Visiting the Museum of Modern Art Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Visiting the Museum of Modern Art - Term Paper ExampleThe paper Visiting the Museum of Modern Art gives a precise information about visiting MoMA. One particularly famous museum in the Unites States is the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City. This location is fascinating for the depth of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and late(a) digital proceeding. It is truly a living and breathing museum. What follows is a brief synopsis of this students recent visit to the museum. While many pieces in the museum captivated my attention, I would like to draw the readers attention to two in particular. The first is an oil painting by the French artist Odilon Redon. The painting itself, at first glance, is simple enough. The title says it all Rock on the Beach. Upon further examination, however, I was drawn to this painting because of the detail of the formation. It is so unique to other renditions of the ocean, because Redon puts his focus on the rocks, as opposed to the water. You hav e to wonder why this is. This is certainly an impressionistic piece of art. The effect of light on the rocks and the overall landscape is evident and a strong draw. As I pondered the lighting, I noticed a lack of intensity. It is daytime, yet the picture appears dark and gloomy. This communicates a relishing of isolation and desolation. As we have studied in class, impressionists focused a great deal on temper. They examined, through their art, their own impressions of the natural world. Paintings ar usually spontaneous and they attempt to capture a moment in life. that can only be truly felt through the painting. Rocks on a Beach is effective to this end. Getting close to the picture, I could see the rough brush strokes that captured the humanity, if you will, of this large rock formation in the middle of a beach. It seems as if this location had a special meaning to Redon and he wanted to portray the feelings he had as he witness this spectacle. We can envision that he was in love by the lack of clarity in this scene and, perhaps, it reflected his mood at that period in his life. I ended up reading the brief biography of this painter while I was at the museum and discovered that around the time of this particular painting he lost a child. The dark and gloomy nature of this impressionist piece of art could very well be reflective of that traumatic event. The final painting I want to discuss is a work by Pablo Picasso. I know he is one of the most famous painters in modern history, provided I was struck by the privilege of visual perception one of his pieces up close and personal. We are used to seeing the works of Picasso in detail in almost any art book. Perhaps we feel we understand his work already and simply move on. My experience at MoMA, however, helped me to realize that nothing replaces a real-life piece of art. The piece by Picasso that I looked at was his painting Guitar. This was oil painting on canvas paper. The first thing I noticed about t his particular painting was the detail of the brush stroke. It is so refined that it looks as if a photograph was taken. I could barely decipher the difference. That is the brilliance of Picasso. The interesting thing about this picture is that the painting is not in truth reflective of a guitar at all, leading one to wonder about the title that Picasso gave this particular work of his. That is, I suppose, a topic for another time, but it is certainly worth noting. This particular piece of art appears to be a

This became the most important basic principle of the telephone, although nobody worked on it up until 1861. This was when Johann Reis designed the first instrument that could convert sound to electromagnetic waves and back to sound. H owever this device had many shortcomings including its inability to transmit several frequencies at the same time. In 1854, Antonio Meucci invented the telettrofono, a device which could be used to communicate through voice (Mercer, 2006, 76).One of the factors that contributed greatly to the invention of the telephone was the telecommunicate, which had been in existence for more than thirty years by the time the telephone was designed. Although it was a highly successful communication system, it had its own problems. For instance, its use of the Morse code greatly limited how one could send and receive messages. in 1870 the Englishman electrician C.F. Varley patented some audio telegraphs that were based on the invention of Reis. In 1874, Poul la Cour was bale to transmit tones through audio telegraphs and telegraph lines (Noll, 2001, 151. I think this is how most people would interpret the poem.3(b) The meaning of this poem is brought come out through the poets use of literary devices such as alliteration, imagery and meter. Alliteration conveys the idea that something is rough to bankrupt and something else is about to happen. In the first line, the alliteration works on the repeated sound of the letter b as in bare branch. This sound makes us come to a hard stop at the beginning of each word and makes us think of endings. This is reinforced by the imagery of the bare branch itself, which indicates life has stopped because all the leaves are gone. It is also reinforced by the meter of the poem because the line is so short. Alliteration is used in the second line to indicate that motion is about to start again with its rolling r sounds as in rook roosts. Although the imagery includes a small bird finding a place to equalizer for the night, it also introduces a living animal into the scene which introduces motion, even if it is just the motion of breathing. This works with the meter to suggest the type of motion to be expected. The line is a full word and a syllable shorter than the first line, suggesting things slowing down. AL AHLIs fees are higher at 95% and 98% for the credit card and checkout accounts respectively. DOHA offers lower rates by 5% and 3% for the respective account (Hossain, & Leo, 2009). Higher overdrafts attract higher fees on both accounts in both banks. The lesson learned is that DOHA offers cheaper overdraft charges for both credit cards and checkout accounts than AL AHLI, even though, the differences are slim. The transaction fees that credit card holders pay in both banks vary depending on where the transaction is made (Elsamadisy, AlKhater, & Mahmoud, 2006). DOHAs costs depend on the location while AL AHLI charges depending on the amount. For instance, DOHA charges QAR 15 for transactions removed Qatar while AL AHLI charges QAR 10 for amounts less than QAR 1000. Both Banks do not charge any transaction fees for their checkout accounts. The lesson learned is that is advisable to use DOHAs credit card when traveling overseas. But they have realized that failure to take into consideration their needs, tastes and preferences, along with their attitudes and beliefs towards the products and services is counterproductive to the marketing gains made. Thus the sports organizations are today investing in efforts to acquire information regarding their target market segments (Chelladurai, 2006).Knowing the behaviors, attitudes, tastes and preferences of the target audiences is alone enough for firms to determine the sports marketing match. To do this, marketing research is needed. Marketing research helps an organization to have an idea of the hearts and thoughts of the sports fanatics. In the process, they acquire knowledge of who the fans are, whether they are excited or satisfied, what should be sponsore d, and the various ways in which the sports sponsorship will influence customers (Chelladurai, 2006).The twenty-first century witnessed major changes in the demographic characteristics of the target audience. Critique of the Literature Review Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Critique of the Literature Review - Assignment ExampleThe study sought to enquire the kindred among leadership styles, demographic factors, and sanction in the delegation of duty by registered nurses in a nursing facility. Results identified lack of a relationship between confidence in delegating duties to unregistered assistive personnel and applied leadership style by registered nurses (Saccomano and Pinto-Zipp, 2011, p. 522). The results also noted that fresh nurses with rase academic qualifications reported lower confidence in delegating duties to the unlicensed personnel than registered nurses. This however changed and after years of experience, the nurses with lower qualifications reported higher confidence than registered nurses did (Saccomano and Pinto-Zipp, 2011).The article identified the studys problem with clarity. Based on its literature review, registered nurses focus on clinical practice but disregard managerial and leadership roles. Previous studies had also not e xplored the relationship between leadership among registered nurses and their confidence in delegation despite a belief that leadership is noteworthy to the nurses ability to manage unlicensed personnel and this knowledge gap informs the studys problem. The researchers also identified frameworks for their study through and through the concept of transformational leadership and through the path-goal theory. They defined a relationship between transformational leadership concept and problem, delegation among nursing leaders, and the relationship between the Path-Goal theory and the delegation problem. The theory, the concept, and their proposed effect on an respective(prenominal)s ability to empower followers and delegate duties to them make the theory and concept appropriate for the studys problem (Saccomano and Pinto-Zipp, 2011).Reviewed literature was appropriate for the stem and contributed to knowledge development on the topics variables. Child Labor in Africa Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1

Child Labor in Africa - Research Paper ExampleAccording to Andvig, child advertize refers to labor carried out by believably too young children, which means that by so doing, they unduly decrease their current economic welfare or their income earning capabilities in future, either by decreasing their own individual productive capabilities in future or by contracting their future external plectrum sets (3). In Africa, childrens work is a generally accepted part of puerility. A household framework wherein childrens work is used to profit parents as well as the extended family network, to secure training and socialization opportunities as well as sustenance for its members is prevalent in Africa. Child labor, in the African context, is deemed as vocational education, specially where children work together with their parents in the rural setup. A long history of domestic and agricultural work by children in numerous parts of Africa exists (Bass, 20-22). Besides education, Africans vie w child labor in terms of instilling knowledge and responsibility of a way of life or of a trade. Particularly in the rural areas, child labor in Africa, rather than create a negative connection, presents itself historically as a regularity of useful training as well as social reproduction for children. Child labor is therefore a historically key part of childhood in African rural, subsistence agricultural areas. It also embodies a crucial part of overall production in the rural setups whereby parents bear many children because they can be profitable economically. Just like in the rural areas, childrens work in African urban areas is a natural extension of the indigenous educational system. While girls work in the domestic setting, boys work in the apprenticeship system. Parents usually foster their children to strangers, extended family members as well as religious leaders in urban areas. They do this with the intention of providing training opportunities for their children as we ll as future opportunities for other family members to migrate to urban areas. Moreover, if a child becomes established in the urban area, his/her whole family profits because he/she may help the others and they all send remittances back home. Fostering however exposes some children to situations that are potentially exploitative, especially if there is no parental supervision (Bass, 22-23). DAndrea explains two types of child labor in Africa, the first one being trafficking of children. This involves the transportation, recruitment, receipt or transfer of a child for the purposes of labor, slavery, sexual exploitation or forced labor. The recruitment of these children is on untrue promises of employment and education and they are transported in risky conditions. Areas where trafficking is common embarrass Burkina Faso, Benin, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Togo, Ghana, Nigeria, Mali and Niger. The other type of child labor is bonded child labor whereby a family receives payment in advance in order to hand over a child to an employer. The United Nations notes the fact that Africa, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa where children constitute almost one-half of the population, has the highest number of working children in the world as a proportion of the child population. The continent has roughly 80 million child workers and by the year 2015 this number could increase to 100 million. Citing statistics from International Labor system

Problem Solving Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Problem Solving - Essay ExampleThis is because there is no definite solution to a hassle as all solutions lead to education of new problems and solutions. Problem solving techniques are on-going processes needed for the survival of an organisation.Halpern (2002) explains that problem solving techniques should be open to find and formulate the problem that affects the progress of an organisation, fulfill a decision, audit the results obtained from the decision made and review the obtained results to determine if they are appropriate. More effort, energy, time and money should be spent on the prior stages of problem solving techniques rather than on the later stages. However, virtually executives ignore this fact as they aim at acting quickly and decisively thereby creating a type III error (working on the wrong problem) (Paradies & Unger, 2002). Therefore, this report will discuss problems that curb the development of organisations and appropriate problem solving techniques that are utilize to eliminate this paradigm. This report will also analyse features of these problem solving techniques and the issues confront while applying them to the problems. Most organisations especially new line of products enterprises are faced with strategic planning problems. Such organisations are unable to appropriately define the strategy and direction of their firms. They are unable to formulate efficient decisions in dispersal of the organisational resources such as capital and labour, a fact that affects their capability to strive in the stiff market competition (Bradford & Duncan, 2000). Most researches, studies and surveys that have been conducted show that most successful organisations implement the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) abridgment into the culture of the organisation to strategically plan for the operations, decision making and resource distribution tactics. According to Lorenzen (2006), SWOT analysis comprises of the identificati on of organisations objectives to determine internal and external factors which may enable or prevent the achievement of these objectives. The SWOT analysis was formulated by Albert Humphrey with the aim of helping business ventures to effectively identify areas for development by matching the strengths of the organisations to available opportunities and the weaknesses to potential threats that the organisation may face. This enabled organisations to attain competitive advantages over their counterpart business enterprises. In other words the SWOT analysis enables organisations to detect the threats and weaknesses of the organisation and convert them to strengths and opportunities that the organisation can utilise to increase its performance. Also organisations are able to effectively overcome these threats and weaknesses thereby attaining appropriate market control due to implementation of strategic plans into the culture of the organisation (Tracy, 2000).The internal factors comp rise of the strengths and weaknesses that determine the motion of objectives of an organisation for example the 4Ps, manufacturing capabilities and personnel among others. On the other hand the external factors comprise of opportunities and threats that an organisation faces such as technological changes, socio-cultural changes and the competitive position of the

What is Federalism Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

What is Federalism - Research Paper ExampleThe federal government was left to handle the issue of inter evidence and international doctor and coining of the currency while the states dealt with and regulating the interstate major power and to conduct their own elections as well as to exercises their own powers which had not been defined by the constitution. This case of federalism was however overtaken by state federalism which was also known as cooperative federalism where there was cooperation between the state and national government and this took place between 1939 and 1969. thither were no clear boundaries where one type of authority began or ended even in the local level of governance. Between 1969 and the present new federalism prevailed. It insists on decadence where the states are given some power and responsibilities and limiting of powers of the federal government. This was called for on the logic that the locals and states were in a better position to be in force(p) si nce they are at the peoples level and understands the circumstances at that level better than the federal government would.Federalism has allowed sharing of not only power but responsibilities as well. This has led to a peaceful coexistence and working together between the two types of governance system on social issues but more so political issues (Welch, Gruhl, Rigdon and Thomas, 2011). State legislators aim to bring to their respective houses prospective laws and policies that will not only benefit their state but other state as well which leads to coexistence in politics a thing which was previously not possible in the previous types of federalism or would simply be non-existent.A country having the all the powers being held by only one person leads to dictatorship and political problems. This is what happens in nations that lack federalism or even just devolution of powers which are only held by a few people in the government. With the system of federalism where power is divid ed between the federal and state,

Cohesive Groups Essay Example for Free

Cohesive Groups EssayIn general terms, a stem is said to be in a responsibility of tackiness when its members possess bonds linking them to peerless another and to the conclave as a whole. Groups that possess strong unifying forces typically stick together over cadence whereas multitudes that lack such bonds between members usually disintegrate.Advantages of cohesive conclavesFirstly, members of cohesive themes tend to communicate with one another in a more positive panache than non cohesive groups. As a result, members of cohesive groups often report higher levels of satisfaction and lower levels of anxiety and tension than members of non cohesive groups.Secondly, group cohesion has been think to enhanced group performance in non laboratory based groups. This bi directional relationship is strongest when the members of a group are committed to the groups tasks.Limitations of cohesive groupsMembership in a cohesive group can also prove problematic for members. As cohe sion increases, the internal dynamics (e.g., worked up and social processes) of the group intensify. As a result, deal in cohesive groups are confronted with powerful pressures to align to the groups goals, norms, and decisions. In many instances these pressures to conform are so great that members suffer from groupthink. Individuals who refuse to yield to the ways of the studyity are typically met with additional negative consequences, including hostility, exclusion, and scape goating.Furthermore, group cohesion can trigger distress and mal adaptive behavior in members following changes to the structure of the group (e.g., loss of a member). The five stage model of group developmentStage 1 FormingIn the Forming stage, personal relations are characterized by dependence. Group members rely on safe, patterned behavior and look to the group leader for guidance and direction. Group members brook a desire for acceptance by the group and a need to be known that the group is safe. They model about gathering impressions and data about the similarities and differences among them and forming preferences for proximo sub grouping. Rules of behavior seem to be to keep things simple and to avoid controversy. Serious topics and feelings are avoided. The major(ip) task functions also concern orientation. Members attempt to become oriented to the tasks as well as to one another. To grow from this stage to the next, each member essential relinquish the comfort of non threatening topics and risk the possibility of conflict.Stage 2 StormingThe next stage, called Storming, is characterized by competition and conflict in the personal relations balance an organization in the task functions dimension. As the group members attempt to organize for the task, conflict inevitably results in their personal relations. Individuals have to bend and mold their feelings, ideas, attitudes, and beliefs to check the group organization. Because of fear of exposure or fear of failure, there will be an increased desire for structural clarification and commitment.Although conflicts may or may not surface as group issues, they do exist. Questions will arise about who is going to be responsible for what, what the rules are, what the reward system is, and what criteria for evaluation are. These theorise conflicts over leadership, structure, power, and authority. There may be wide swings in members behavior based on emerging issues of competition and hostilities. Because of the discomfort generated during this stage, some members may remain completely silent while others attempt to dominate. In order to progress to the next stage, group members must move from a interrogation and proving mentality to a problem solving mentality. The most important trait in helping groups to move on to the next stage seems to be the talent to listen.Stage 3 NormingIn the norming stage, interpersonal relations are characterized by cohesion. Group members are engaged in active acknowledgmen t of all members contributions, company building and maintenance, and solving of group issues. Members are willing to change their preconceived ideas or opinions on the basis of facts presented by other members, and they actively ask questions of one another. Leadership is shared, and cliques dissolve. When members begin to know and identify with one another, the level of trust in their personal relations contributes to the development of group cohesion. It is during this stage of development that people begin to experience a sense of group belonging and a feeling of relief as a result of resolving interpersonal conflicts. The major task function of stage three is the data flow between group members They share feelings and ideas, solicit and give feedback to one another, and explore actions related to the task. creativity is high. If this stage of data flow and cohesion is attained by the group members, their interactions are characterized by openness and sharing of information on both a personal and task level. They feel good about being part of an effective group. The major drawback of the norming stage is that members may begin to fear the inevitable future breakup of the group they may resist change of any sort.Stage 4 PerformingThe Performing stage is not reached by all groups. If group members are able to evolve to stage four, their capacity, range, and depth of personal relations expand to true interdependence. In this stage, people can work independently, in subgroups, or as a total unit with equal facility. Their roles and authorities dynamically adjust to the changing needs of the group and individuals. Stage four is marked by interdependence in personal relations and problem solving in the realm of task functions. By now, the group should be most productive.Individual members have become self assuring, and the need for group approval is past. Members are both highly task oriented and highly people oriented. There is unity group identity is complete , group morale is high, and group loyalty is intense. The task function becomes genuine problem solving, leading toward optimal solutions and optimum group development. There is shop at for experimentation in solving problems and an emphasis on achievement. The overall goal is productivity through problem solving and work.Stage 5 AdjourningThe final stage, adjourning, involves the marches of task behaviors and disengagement from relationships. A planned conclusion usually includes recognition for participation and achievement and an opportunity for members to say personal goodbyes. Concluding a group can create some apprehension in effect, a minor crisis. The termination of the group is a regressive movement from giving up agree to giving up inclusion in the group.

Classifications of Hybrid Electric Vehicles Essay Example for Free

Classifications of Hybrid electrical Vehicles Essay1. Technology Although the Electric Vehicles (EVs) have been around since the earliest days of automotive industry, they were not able to live up to consumer demand in terms of price align and charging time until recently. A recent survey has revealed what the consumer demands from EVs. fit in to a study based on a survey conducted in 17 countries with 13,000 individuals the demanded applied science and the result of the study is that EV technology is at a period of its lifecycle where the performance of the technology is not at a level that customer expects. 1. 1. Range Although there is a naughty consumer willingness recently to either get by to purchase EV or willing to be a first mover when it comes to EV adoption, many of them does not compromise in Range. Despite the event that the average consumer does not exceed 50 miles per day, the consumer still demands further range capacity from EVs. The majority of the consu mers correlate EVs range with conventional internal combustion locomotive engine (ICE) vehicles 1. Also According to Hidrue, M. (2010) range anxiety is the primary concern of a potential EV consumer. As the figure illustrates, although the greater majority (78%) of consumers in the US drives around 50 miles, a big portion of them have expectation for EV to be able to drive around 300 miles. The current technology allows EVs to drive between somewhat 100 miles between charges. The only EV that go off get close to consumer demand in terms of range is Tesla S (which drives 265 miles) as of 2013. However, the average technology does not live up to consumer demand in terms of drivable range between charges presently. The main constraint for the low range is energy density. According to Deploit (2011), the forecast was revealing that with the battery technology in hand the driving range still would fall short of consumer expectations. 1. 2 heyday Speed and Acceleration there are multi ple schools of thought about how consumer behavior affects EV market. According to those consumers would purchase new vehicles whose attributes are superior to those of currently in the market, they would not seek alternatives which are worse than what they have currently 4.As an example Nissan Leaf is rated up to 90 kW of power which is approximately 120 horsepower in ICE which is in line with a large number of compact and intermediate vehicles such as CW Jetta, Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus. There are also better EVs in the market in terms of performance, in example Tesla S series can produce 416 horsepower and can go up to 130 mph on a highway 5. The reason why EV generally does not go more than that is that high speeds drop the fuel efficiency dramatically. Table. 1 The performance chart of Tesla S 5 2. Vehicle Architecture 3. 1. Vehicle Architecture.Although there are different frames that can deterrent example a vehicles architecture, the following one is a comprehensive way to understand the functions and interrelationships of the components. In order to adjust the high speed of the galvanic machine to the low speed wheels, the torque of the left and right wheels are provided by a differential. Basically, the inverter inverts DC voltage battery into three-phase AC voltage that is needed by the electric machine. Furthermore, it is also important to account for losses due to the components, which are not a part of the power chain when analyzing the energy consumption. These concomitant losses comprise lighting system, comfort system, safety systems, etc. It is also very critical that the maximum voltage of the battery is not exceeded during the regenerative braking, to prevent that from occurrent the architecture is reinforced by braking resistor 6. exhibit 1. Architecture of a typical Electric vehicle 6 3. 1. System Architecture Electric Vehicles architecture is similar at certain points to ICE.Driver interface and command interpreter receives input from users through steering wheel, brakes, and gas pedal and then by considering vehicle speed and vehicle path, creates propulsion. The motion control comprises two primary blocks such as the path accountant and energy management controller. Path controller gives forces and moments demands to the force distributor. The energy management controller determines the state of the charge and estimates the overall traction force to be sent to command controller unit 7. Exhibit 2.
